GABES Fire Trivia: Debunk common fire escape myths and learn the right way to respond.
When a fire breaks out, getting out of the fire the right way is important. ✨ The following are some common misconceptions about fire escapes:
đźš« Misconception 1: Just wait for help
- Rescuers may not be able to reach your location before the fire spreads
- Immediately flee the scene of the fire if the situation allows
đźš« Misconception 2: Use a lift to escape
- A fire can cause a power failure, rendering the lift inoperable
- Using a lift to escape increases the risk of being trapped
đźš« Misconception 3: Blindly jump off a building to escape
- If you are trapped in a tall building, you can hang conspicuous objects outside the window for help (e.g. waving white bedsheets, coats)
- Do not jump off the building for as long as possible to avoid severe injury or death
đźš« Misconception 4: Escape defenselessly
- When escaping, bring the three key items: mobile phone, wet towel, and key
- Evacuate with all necessary items without affecting the speed of escape
Staying calm and reacting quickly is the key to escaping a fire. Remember to remind yourself and those around you to follow the correct escape strategy in the event of a fire. 🔥
